National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, (NIEPA NIGERIA), Ondo between 12th to 16th October, 2021 trained Head Teachers across the geo-political zones in the country on “Ensuring Safe, Secure and Violence Free Schools”.Professor Olivet Jagusah mni, the Institute’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer made the disclosure to news men in his office on Thursday 21st October, 2021. Jagusah said the training was timely as it will enable “Headteachers have a better perspective of the present scenario, put the Headteachers in proper shape and enhance their capacity on how best to safely conduct their activities in their respective schools for the purpose of enhancing effective school learning,’’ he said. Also speaking during the press brief, Head of Training and Research Department of the Institute, Dr. Sunday Adegbesan added that, the place of safe, secure and violence free school environment cannot be jettisoned, therefore, enhancement with the necessary skills and knowledge to put necessary logistics in place in schools are very important. This he said informed the theme of the workshop centered on School Sanitation and Hygiene Education, Security Education in Schools, Violence free school, School Policies and Legal Issues Supporting School Safety, School-Community Relation for Secure and Violence Free School, Roles of other Stakeholders in Promoting Secure and Violence Free School and Emergency Response and Risk Reduction in Schools. He commended Prof. Olivet Jagusah, the Institute’s Director-General and his Management team for giving priority to capacity development of Headteachers generally. According to Adegbesan, the programme was very successful going by the feedback from participants during and after the workshop.The programme, which was supervised by the Institute’s Ag. Registrar & Secretary to Council Mrs. Abimbola Fayanju and Institute Bursar, Mr. Olukayode Osinuga, had also officials from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals(OSSAP-SDGs) and Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, monitored the training.
