Brief profile of our Principal Officers.
Prof. Lilian I. Salami, (Nee Emovon,) Ph.D. Professor of Home Economics/Nutritional Education is a Benin and hails from Edo State, Nigeria, West Africa. She was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria on the 8th of August, 1956. Her early schooling started in Jos but was truncated by the Nigerian Civil War. Her both primary and secondary education were then completed in Edo State.
She obtained her West African School Certificate (O’ levels) from Baptist High School, Benin City. In 1975 she travelled to the United States of America to University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point Campus and had her summer schooling in the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. She later transferred to North Dakota State University, Fargo after she got married in 1977. There she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in 1979 in Home Economics and Master’s degree in Nutrition in 1982. She returned back to Nigeria in 1983 and enrolled to serve in the National Youth Service Corps in Benin City. Upon completion of the national service, she made a brief start of her teaching career with the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo, Nigeria. Between 1985 and 1994 she lectured Nutrition at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. This was interjected when she gained admission into University of Nigeria, Nsukka for a doctoral degree in Human Nutrition in 1989 which she obtained in 1991. In 1994, she was appointed a Senior Lecturer with the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria and acted as a Head of Department between 1996 and 1998 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2005. In her desire to be well-grounded in teaching, she gained and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2001 from the University of Benin. In 2004, Prof. Salami proceeded to the Vaal University of Technology, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa as a post-doctoral fellow which she obtained in 2005. She has held numerous positions at the prestigious University of Benin, Director of General Studies, Part-time programme and Chairman of the Board of University of Benin Integrated Enterprise. She has also served as a member in many other committees. She is the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Education and was a member of the apex body of the University, the Governing Council. Prof. Salami has taught numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Home Economics and Nutrition. She has successfully supervised over 40 masters and 15 PhD students. She is a fellow of Nutrition Society of Nigeria and International Federation of Home Economics/Home Professional Association of Nigeria. As an administrator, she has held numerous administrative positions in the University of Benin and currently the Director General/Chief Executive of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA, Ondo). She has to her credit over 75 peer reviewed articles in national and international Journals. Outside academic, she is a member of the Advisory council to his royal majesty, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Ukukpolokpolo, Ogidigan, Oba Ewuare II
Abimbola Fayanju is a career Public Servant having been in the Federal Public Service consistently 26 years. She holds N.C.E (1986) LACOED, B.Ed. (Hons.) Educational Guidance and Counseling (1991) UNILORIN and Masters in Managerial Psychology (1998) U.I.
She joined the defunct MAMSER (which was later changed to National Orientation Agency- NOA) as a Research Officer II in March, 1993 and rose to the position of Chief Programme Officer in 2009. She served in NOA for 17 years before she transferred her service from NOA to NIEPA in April, 2010 as Training and Research Fellow I. After a brief stint in the academic department, she converted to the Administrative cadre as Senior Assistant Registrar in May 2011 where she rose to the position of Deputy Registrar in January 2018. She also served as the Institute Nodal Officer between March 2017 and April 2018. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (CILGPAN).
Abimbola Fayanju volunteers as a carer in motherless babies homes and offers free counseling services to student in schools. She also writes for online blog as Youth Counsellor.
Following her appointment in December 2018, Abimbola Fayanju is currently the Ag. Registrar of the Registry Department of the Institute.
Mr. Olalekan Osinuga, before his appointment as the Institute’s Bursar served as Director (Budget and Expenditure control) and also, Director (Treasury) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He also had a working stint at Ogun State Television (OGTV) from March 1990 to June 1998.
Mr. Osinuga holds a diploma in Computer Science and Masters of Business Administration both from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Joseph Babalola University, Osun State.
He has the following professional qualifications:
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Fellow (FCA).
- Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) MNIM
- Nigeria Computer Society (Associate)
He has attended several training workshops and seminars. He has also been awarded several honors and national recognitions.
He is happily married and blessed with children.
Mr. ZACHI, HELEJI ABRAHAM is a Principal Publication and Documentation Officer in the Publication and Documentation, Ondo. He attended the following Institutions and colleges, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Uyo, Colleges, College of Education Kastina – Ala and Government Teachers College Egbe, Kwara State. He holds a Bachelor of library Science (BLS), National Certificate of Education and grade ll Teachers certificate.
Mr Zachi started his working career as a Librarian with the Federal College of Education, Pankshin. He worked in the College for ten years as Serial, Acquisition, Reference and Technical Services Librarian. He has also worked as a Science teacher with the Government Science Secondary School, Dekina; Government Teachers College Emi-Guni and Army Day Secondary School Lokoja, Kogi State.
His work schedule includes Reference Services, Cataloguing and Classification, Abstracting and Indexing. He has also facilitated many Trainings for the Institute. He was a member of NIEPA technical support team for SESP/SESOP, 2009/2010. He is also proficient in the use of Microsoft word, PowerPoint, Web search and EBSCO host.
