A combined opening ceremony programme was organized for Board members of Osun State Universal Basic Education Board and Education Unit staff in the Ministry of Defence. Both agencies of government were at the corporate headquarters of NIEPA NIGERIA, Ondo for capacity development needs and skills improvement training on Leadership and Management Techniques and Strengthening the Capacity of EMIS Officers respectively.

Declaring the workshops open, Mr Kayode Osinuga who represented the Director-General/CEO opined that the theme Leadership and Management Techniques provides potentials and opportunities for the Board members and other management staff in Osun SUBEB to act proactively for the future. The achievement of Basic Education in Osun State is hinged on the Boards’ ability to effectively evolve different strategies in managing schools and the mastery of necessary skills and attitudes to move the state’s education sector forward. Mr Osinuga who is also NIEPA’s Bursar stressed that the primary purpose of educational leadership is to ensure academic success through process, material and training improvements which can be accomplished through collaboration with educators, policymakers and the public.

The Bursar also harped on the importance of information as a key ingredient in an education system that will be effective. Education Management Information System according to him provides systematic, quality data in a structured environment. This information according to him will enable the utilization of information produced in planning and policy dialogue.He then urged both sets of participants to ensure that they gain the necessary knowledge the workshops seek to imbibe in them so that they can develop as individuals, improve their social well-being to play their part in the development of education in their respective organizations. While assuring them of getting value for monies spent, he assured them that both workshops will contribute immensely to the wealth of knowledge from its careful study and regular implementation of its most valuable and practical ideas.

Speaking on the workshop scope and modalities, Head, Training and Research Department of NIEPA, Dr Sunday Adegbesan took guests down memory lane on the fruitful and productive patronage and partnership shared over the years between NIEPA and Osun SUBEB and the Ministry of Defence.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Executive Chairman Osun SUBEB Hon. Famurewa Ajibola Israel and also, the Director of Education in the Ministry of Defence, Mrs Jolaoso Anuoluwapo.
