A 5-day workshop on Leadership and Management Techniques for Board Members of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board took place at the corporate headquarters of National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo from November 18 to November 22, 2019.
Delivering her welcome address at the opening ceremony, Director-General of the Institute Professor Lilian Salami, represented by the Coordinator of Programmes, Dr. Mrs. Akinsolu, highlighted the objectives of the workshop to include; re-positioning Oyo SUBEB Board team for better service delivery and to improve the standard of education in Oyo State, updating these education managers on the latest best practices in leadership skills and strategic management processes.
She applauded the Board for always patronizing the Institute for capacity development of its teaching and non-teaching staff while underscoring the dangers inherent in patronizing quacks.
She further charged the Board to remain change agents and scale up the good practices imbibed from the workshop.
Also speaking the opening ceremony, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran who serves as the Chairman, Oyo State Universal Education Board, profusely appreciated God Almighty for bringing the programme to reality.
According to the SUBEB Boss, the future and development of any government depends on good leadership which no doubt involves strategic planning, problem solving and decision making.
Dr. Adeniran further stressed the importance of the workshop theme adding that, “leaders play very important roles in the management of educational administration”.
This he opined was the reason why the Federal government in partnership with state governments attaches great importance to the training and retraining of management cadre, teaching and non-teaching staff in SUBEB through the Teacher Development Programmes.
The conviction is that government believes that no amount is too much to in this regard. Leaders are expected to be updated on leadership and management techniques. He concluded by charging all Board members present to give the training the maximum attention it deserves by paying rapt attention to all that will be facilitated and also ensure active participation.
Head, Training department, NIEPA Ondo, Dr. Sunday Adegbesan assured the participants that the workshop on Leadership and Management Techniques will take a broad look at aspects such as strategic management, leadership styles and application, conflict management, communication process, e-governance, decision making, education law and how these can best contribute to achieving a formidable team in Oyo SUBEB.
NIEPA’s seasoned resource persons will be availing the Board with the necessary information that will be needed for maximum benefits, since NIEPA unique style of facilitation is participatory, experiential, case study and building scenarios, Dr. Adegbesan said.
