NIEPA DG Tasks Headteachers on Importance of School Development Plan

The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) Ondo, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), Abuja has facilitated a continuous growth process workshop for selected Headteachers of Basic schools in Nigeria.

Declaring the 3-day workshop open at its corporate headquarters in Ondo City, the Head, Training and Research department of the Institute, Dr Sunday Adegbesan who stood in for the Director General, thanked the Federal Ministry of Education for its continuous efforts and collaboration with capacity building agencies like NIEPA Ondo in the development and strengthening of the basic education sector in Nigeria. According to Adegbesan, the theme “School Development Plan” became necessary to bring together clearly and simply, a school’s priorities, main measures it will take to raise standards, the resources dedicated to these, and the key outcomes and targets it intends to achieve. He further said, “the school development planning process often begins with the core: the formulation of Mission, Vision and Aims”. Dr Adegbesan admonished the respective headteachers/participants to understand that as headteachers, not only do they guide students in academics or extracurricular activities, but are also responsible for shaping a child’s future, making him/her a better human being. “A teacher imparts knowledge, good values, tradition, modern-day challenges and ways to resolve them within students,” Adegbesan said.

In the 3-day workshop which ended on Friday 23rd September 2022, the participants were taken through courses in Effective School Management, Role of the Headteacher in leading Teaching and Learning, School Evaluation, School Development Plan, and SBMC.
