NIEPA Trains Bursary Staff on GIFMIS for Improved Service Delivery

The Bursary Department of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo has com­menced a 2 day in house training for staff of the department us­ing the Gov­ern­ment In­te­grated Fi­nan­cial Man­age­ment In­for­ma­tion Sys­tem (GIFMIS) to fast-track procurement process, asset inventory and other very important information.


GIFMIS is an ITbased sys­tem for bud­get man­age­ment and ac­count­ing that is be­ing im­ple­mented by the fed­eral gov­ern­ment to im­prove Pub­lic Ex­pen­di­ture Man­age­ment pro­cesses, en­hance greater ac­count­abil­ity and trans­parency across Min­istries and Agen­cies.


Ad­dress­ing par­tic­i­pants at the New Training Hall in NIEPA Ondo, the Bursar of Institute, Mr Olukayode Osinuga while commending the Director General of the Institute Prof. Olivet Jagusah mni for his recent developmental strides in the area of staff welfare said, NIEPA is train­ing Bursary staff as a ma­jor in­stru­ment of achiev­ing the goal of plac­ing the department on a sus­tain­able path of growth. Osinuga called on staff to seize the opportunity provided by the training on Government Integrated Financial and Management Information Systems (GIFMIS), to upscale their service delivery in the various units of the Bursary. He added that the two-day training was designed to equip staff with necessary information on how best to utilize the platform.


According to the consultant personnel for the 2-day programme, The GIFMIS, which takes into cognizance all steps in the expenditure cycle – budget appropriations, financing limits, commitments, verification and payment transactions – is aimed at using automated and integrated information management systems to improve the acquisition, allocation, utilisation and conservation of public financial resources. Mr Olarewaju Boyede from the Ondo GIFMIS Support Office (Accountant General’s Office) added that, the programme provides an opportunity for Bursary and other related personnel to improve the quality of their work seamlessly and efficiently, and urged participants to take the exercise seriously.


Speaking at the end of the Programme, the Institute Auditor, Mr Bola Adejori said the GIFMIS training will aid strategic management of public financial resources for enhanced accountability, transparency and cost-effective public service delivery.
